Description

Do you wish you had more class time to provide additional engagement among students and parents/guardians? Consider using a 'wrap-around' strategy to build anticipation and garner engagement around your program goals.

This session will focus on an innovative technology approach to extend, expand, and enhance learning beyond the formal classroom as well as build an engaged community. Together we will discuss how to create a simple series of cohesive and coordinated technology related activities to develop a story that generates excitement and promotes engagement.

Through a 'world-cafe' experience session participants will be exposed to wrap-around technology activities such as blogs, podcasts, video, social media, Twitter chats, infographics, Voicethread, Sparkol, Flip Grid and more to reach beyond the confines of the classroom and create a conversation with and among learners. Participants will share what strategies they have used, interact with various wrap-arounds, and brainstorm potential wrap-arounds with fellow session attendees.

This wrap-around technology approach, used by the Military Families Learning Network, can easily be adapted to a K-12 setting. School professionals can plan ahead to create a simple series of cohesive, coordinated plans to develop a 'story' with a lesson that generates excitement and promotes both student and parent/guardian engagement with classroom learning.

Come and learn together about this wrap-around approach as well as how to adapt it to your teaching style and environment. The Military Families Learning Network serves military family service professionals through engaged online communities. Session presenters will be University of Minnesota Extension Educators.
