Description
Incorporating a translation between physical and digital manipulative environments gives students an opportunity to receive a balance of learning benefits from both spaces instead of being isolated to just one. Implementing a connection between physically made paper quilts and the digital learning environment, DigiQuilt, can be done by utilizing homography to create a grid overlay on top of a physically represented image. By using color sampling and comparison, we can collect information from the physical image and translate it into digitally readable information that is compatible with DigiQuilt. With a simple image of a paper quilt and its known dimensions, we’re able to fully make the translation to a digital space and gain further understanding about the quilt created while still being able to experience the physical process and connection that comes with working with tangible manipulatives.
