Abstract
This paper will aim to explore the effect of the current MLB pitching trends and the correlation between trends and injury. Furthermore, the goal is to examine the trickle down effect of these trends and the rise in youth arm injuries. I will investigate the MLB’s emphasis on pitching “stuff” (velocity, spin rate and workhorse pitchers), which is favored over statistics, trying to prove that the MLB neglects long-term pitching health in return for harder throwing pitchers. These patterns, adopted by youth players have created a rise in throwing injuries due to the desire of young players to make it to the league.
