Description

The Planting Moon, or ‘wóžupi wi’, is the time in which we begin to plant our crops. Historically, this was the time when Dakota peoples began to build and tend to their gardens. The three sisters, (Corn, Beans and Squash) were a very common set of crops grown in this region.

An illustration of a Dakota person preparing the ground to begin planting seeds. In the background is a yellow circle that represents the moon, or the month.
